Sushmita Sen’s Brother Rajeev Claims Ex-Wife Charu Has No Financial Crunch: ‘She Could Afford Cruise Trip’

Sushmita Sen’s brother Rajeev Sen denies Charu Asopa’s claim of financial trouble, says she funded a cruise trip for her family.

A recent video of actress Charu Asopa, who was previously married to Sushmita Sen’s brother Rajeev Sen, caught attention online. In the clip, Charu was seen selling salwar suits in Bikaner, claiming she had relocated and launched her new business due to financial challenges. However, her ex-husband has now reacted strongly to her remarks, denying that she is under any financial stress.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Rajeev Sen questioned the authenticity of Charu’s claims. “She could afford a cruise trip with her brother and his wife which is pretty expensive and she paid for everyone’s ticket. Where does this financial struggle come into play?” he asked.
Rajeev further alleged that Charu has been exploring real estate in Bikaner. “She’s looking to buy a house in Bikaner—or maybe already has—which takes serious money. Even with a loan, buying property isn’t cheap. Plus, if she’s managing cruises and her regular shopping—as seen in her daily vlogs—it clearly shows she’s not struggling financially. Anyone truly under financial stress wouldn’t even dream of buying property,” he said.
Apart from questioning her financial claims, Rajeev also expressed concern over not being allowed to meet their daughter, Ziana. He alleged that Charu has not been responding to his messages about meeting their child during her time in Bikaner. He also disapproved of her decision to go public with personal matters, especially financial ones.
Earlier, Charu had opened up about her move from Mumbai to Bikaner in an interview with the same publication. “Living in Mumbai is not easy; it costs money. For me, the monthly living cost came up to Rs 1 lakh -1.5 lakh, including the rent and everything, which was not easy. Furthermore, I would rather not leave Ziana alone with a nanny when I am shooting in Naigaon (Mumbai). It used to get extremely difficult. Moving back home and starting my own thing was completely planned; it wasn’t a rushed decision,” she had said.
Charu Asopa and Rajeev Sen tied the knot in 2019 and became parents to a baby girl in 2021. The couple finalised their divorce in 2023.
