In a major cyber attack on the Jammu Municipal Corporation website on Friday, critical data was stolen by hackers, top intelligence sources said.
All certificates and databases, likely containing citizen data like Aadhaar numbers, property records, tax details and administrative documents, and infrastructure plans, were reportedly lost in the data breach incident, sources added.
The agencies are working to restore the website.
“Such attacks align with patterns of Pakistan-backed cyber operations aimed at destabilising Indian administrative infrastructure. This is deliberately done, particularly in sensitive regions like Jammu and Kashmir,” sources said.
Further details on the matter are awaited.
Previous Hacking Attempts By Pakistan
Earlier yesterday, Pakistan-sponsored hacker groups such as ‘Cyber Group HOAX1337’ and ‘National Cyber Crew’ made unsuccessful attempts to hack some Indian websites. Their attempts were foiled by the cybersecurity agencies as they promptly identified and neutralised the threats.
In a recent provocation, the websites of Army Public School Nagrota and Sunjuwan were targeted and attempted to be defaced with messages mocking the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. In a separate incident, a website that caters to ex-servicemen’s healthcare services was defaced.
Hackers from Pakistan have tried many times to target websites connected to children, elderly veterans, and other innocent people.
