Punjabi singer Karan Aujla has landed in trouble after his song “MF Gabru” sparked controversy over the alleged use of objectionable language against women.
Taking cognisance of the matter, the Punjab State Women’s Commission has issued a suo motu notice, stating that the lyrics are disrespectful and promote misogyny.
The commission has directed the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, to initiate an inquiry through a senior official and submit a report.
Karan Aujla has been ordered to appear before the commission on August 11 in connection with the case. The controversy has reignited debates over lyrical content and the portrayal of women in Punjabi music.
Trouble For Honey Singh
Meanwhile, singer Honey Singh has also been issued a notice by the Punjab Women’s Panel over his song ‘Millennium’.
Taking suo motu cognisance, the Punjab State Women’s Commission has issued a notice against the singer, raising concerns over the song’s content. A letter has been sent to the Punjab DGP, directing a senior officer to investigate the matter.
Both the investigating officer and Honey Singh have been summoned to appear before the commission on August 11 at 11:30 am.
