Thane, Jul 11 (PTI) An autorickshaw driver was arrested for allegedly murdering a minor girl in Thane city, a police official said on Friday.
The girl’s body was found on July 5 in Kasarwadavli police station limits, he said.
“A probe found the girl had left home on July 4. CCTV footage tracked her from her house to the rickshaw stand at Thane railway station. Further probe led us to rickshaw driver Samadhan Arjun Suryavanshi (40), who was held from Lokmanya Nagar on Thursday,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Amarsingh Jadhav said.
Suryavanshi drove the girl around for some time, then took her to an isolated place near Waghbil and strangled her, though the motive for the crime is yet to be ascertained, the DCP said.
Suryavanshi, who has been charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections pertaining to murder, causing evidence to disappear and other offences, has been remanded in police custody till July 17, Jadhav said. PTI COR BNM
