Gold Knight by Kilian (thanks Cinnamon and Tom)

Heya posse. Do you remember when Cinnamon had couple of Gold Knight moments? Well, I thought I did too but it ended up being Dark Lord. Then I thought it might have been Tom. NOPE! Dark Knight! So now you know. My mind is definitely on the wander. Especially considering that I bought a decant of Gold Knight from my buddies at Surrender To Chance so I could live their posts.
Perfumer Pascal Gaurin has had a career creating solid but forgettable scents for some of the most prestigious and other less so companies. They’re good fragrances but not historic and some have been buzz words till they weren’t. It seems that Gold Knight has suffered the same lackluster performance because the US by Kilian site has already finished it. Good news though, FragranceNet has it reasonably priced (not affiliated)
Gold Knight by Kilian 2017
by Kilian gives these featured accords:
Anise, Bergamot, Honey, Patchouli
Opening is So good! Sparkling citrus and a sweet anise reminiscent of Lolita Lempicka EdP but MUCH less frothy and darker. Curious juxtaposition of dark and light. It’s so mesmerizing, like looking at a Rembrandt painting.
The honey makes its presence smelt fairly soon and it has that famous by Kilian boozy richness. Very cognac and whispered secrets by firelight. The heart continues with the rich honeyed sweetness that has a decidedly burned patchouli and charred wood aftertaste. Gold Knight is exquisite, in the way perfumes just don’t seem to be being made anymore. Rich, tapestried and layered. I even get wafts of some fleshy white florals and spicy cinnamon wending through.
Dry down is an amber with boozy overtones that still shimmers till its very last gasp.
Totally unisex, I’m not sure why it is touted for men but the by Kilian site attaches no gender to it. Longevity is excellent and sillage remains quite nicely for 3+ hours, without being a monster. Even in deep dry down I can smell very soft sparkling amber remnants 12+ hours on.
I seriously do not understand how Gold Knight didn’t become a modern classic. It’s gorgeous and so wearable.
Did you ever try it?
