Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) find themselves in a pickle after losing their fifth straight match in IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Their batting collapsed to a sub-par 162/5 in the first innings on an atypically slow track in Mumbai, leaving their bowlers too little to defend. Despite Pat Cummins’ 3/26 and Eshan Malinga’s 2/26, MI chased the total in just 18.1 overs. It was the hosts’ only third win of the season, but they are much better placed than SRH.

The Orange Army are now placed at the bottom spot in the points table with half of their group stage done. In their remaining seven games, they need to win at least six to reach 16 points — which is usually enough to qualify for the top four in a 10-team IPL.

They can also qualify with 14 points or five wins, but that won’t be a guarantee. In that scenario, there could be a high chance of four other teams finishing with 16 points or some with 14 points, where the Net Run Rate will be the deciding factor.

A lot of teams have had such unlikely runs in the past. MI have done it multiple times while Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) recovered from a worse spot last season to qualify for the final-four.

However, SRH have a huge list of issues to sort. Their team has shown a pattern of struggle on pitches with any kind of help for opposition bowlers, plus a big chunk of their starting players have been unable to shrug off bad form.

SRH’s Remaining Matches In IPL 2025

The worrying thing for SRH is that out of the next seven, only three of their matches are at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. They are going home for the next match to face MI again but then their campaign will include trips to Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Lucknow — which have been far from flat tracks this season.
