Former Indian opening batter Krishnamachari Srikkanth, who has now donned the hat of an expert and commentator, on Friday (April 11) slammed Chennai Super Kings after the MS Dhoni-led side suffered a humiliating defeat by 8 wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025 match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
According to the member of India’s 1983 ODI World Cup winning team, the defeat against KKR was one of CSK’s worst defeats ever. He felt that CSK’s batting in the powerplay looked like a rehearsal of a Test match.
In a tweet which is going viral on the internet, the 65-year-old former Indian batter suggested CSK to think out of the box and try Prithvi Shaw.
“One of CSK’s worst defeats ever. Powerplay batting looked like a rehearsal for a test match. Whole XI feels like it’s running on nostalgia. Time to think out of the box, why not try isome unsold players like Prithvi Shaw at this point? Would you try it? , even chaos is a strategy? #CSKvsKKR,” Srikkanth tweeted.

CSK have an option to sign Shaw as an injury replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad was ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025 season on Thursday (April 10) due to an elbow injury that he suffered while playing against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30.
Shaw’s record in IPL
Shaw has played in the IPL for Delhi Capitals from 2018 to 2024. In 79 matches played for the Delhi-based franchise, the 25-year-old right-handed batter scored 1892 runs. He was not retained by Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, after which he entered the mega auction with a base price of Rs 75 lakh, but surprisingly he was not picked by any of the 10 franchises.
Shaw, who led India to the U-19 World Cup title win in 2018, has also played for India in all three formats of the game. He made his international debut against the West Indies during a Test match played in Rajkot on October 4, 2018, and scored a century on debut.
