Maison Margiela Replica Whispers In The Library 2019
Over on the Mumsnet Perfume Thread (Hi chums!) the MMM Replica range crops up a lot. A particular go-to favourite is By The Fireplace. Such was the frequency of this favourite that I ended up exploring more from the range and I wasn’t disappointed. Well, okay, I didn’t adore Autumn Vibes, but that’s the only exception. Today I’m reviewing Maison Martin Margiela Replica Whispers in The Library. Silence please!
My first unedited thought about this was that there is iris in it. According to Fragrantica I’m wrong. Vanilla, pepper, cedar and “woody notes” are here. The brand site says “peppery vanilla notes of precious woods.” Both give an accurate picture but to my nose there is a pleasant layer of powdery dust, often evoked using iris.
Now iris can be a bit of a chameleon. It can be carroty or it can exude quiet class. I always see it in my mind’s eye as unaffordable dove grey suede. So, if you’re wondering why I’m talking about iris when it’s allegedly not here, maybe you can imagine a hint of subtle, classy dove grey suede somewhere among the polished wood floors and the sepia edged pages. Or maybe it’s the leather bound tomes, gone fluffy with age, that are making me think of suede? In any case, team that light, classy powder with a restrained touch of vanilla and acres of wood flooring and elaborate shelving. Imagine a few candles burning, preferably beeswax for authenticity, and you do indeed have a beautiful, hushed library.
It feels like living a fantasy. All those shelves of unread books and no noise or interruption. That’s either a pipe dream or a retirement plan. This is not a particularly loud, statement fragrance but if you want something comforting close to skin, then it’s ideal.
Whispers in The Library is wonderfully calming and despite being strongly resonant of dusty leather books, it smells beautiful. But then again, I rather like dusty leather books, don’t you?

There’s a good selection of MMM Replica fragrances, including a discovery set on Sephora. Full 100ml bottles are around £120, with the 30ml starting at just under £60. A discovery set sounds like a good way of picking a favourite before buying blind.
