Marco Reus, a stalwart of Borussia Dortmund for 12 years, will bid farewell to the club as he departs as a free agent at the end of the season. Making the announcement via social media, the veteran attacking midfielder revealed the mutual decision reached between him and the club not to extend his contract.

Having joined Dortmund in 2012 and having a decade-long association with the club even during his youth, Reus leaves behind an indelible mark, having netted 168 goals in 424 appearances while assisting in 128 others. Renowned for his skillful play, knack for goal-scoring, and astute gameplay, Reus led the team as captain for a notable five-year tenure until 2023.

During his tenure, Reus secured two German Cups but narrowly missed out on claiming the Bundesliga title, a coveted trophy that eluded him, notably in the previous season’s final matchday.

Despite his impending departure, Reus eyes a memorable conclusion to his Dortmund journey with a potential triumph in the Champions League. Dortmund stands poised in the semifinals, having clinched a 1-0 victory over Paris St Germain in the first leg. Expressing gratitude and emotion, Reus conveyed his pride in representing Dortmund for the majority of his life and emphasized his commitment to the ongoing campaign, with aspirations to clinch the coveted title in Europe’s grandest club competition.

As Dortmund braces for the return leg against Paris St Germain, Reus and the team aim to script a triumphant conclusion to his illustrious tenure, eyeing a return to Wembley and the opportunity to hoist the prestigious trophy once again.
