So this is about shampoo bars. Not actual bars where they pour prosecco down you while giving you a shampoo and scalp rub (although if they don’t have those, they should) but shampoo in bar form.

I have my hair mown about every six months or so. So I go from Harrison Ford in “Blade Runner” to Harrison Ford in “Call of the Wild” (without ever actually resembling Harrison Ford, mind you.) I don’t style my hair. I have the same blow dryer I had when I was 16: A GE handheld with settings from windy to gale-force and cold to paint-stripper. I barely use it. As fa as product I will usually put a little pomade of some sort to keep my hair from standing straight up and roostering itself at everyone within sight. Sometimes that works. As for shampoo I do have a couple, usually just a whatever smells decent and doesn’t promise to either strip my hair or oil it down.

I am also not really a bar soap person. I prefer liquid soaps and the pump, at least at home. Even my fave Erno Laszlo black soap has somewhat taken a backseat to the pump action black cleanser they make, at least in the shower. (which is over-run with little bottles of LUSH, Kiehl’s, Moulton Brown, and C.O. Bigelow at this point.) But my old friend Val mentioned again that a friend of hers makes soaps and sells them on Etsy, so I went to check out her wares.

In addition to having bunches of cute little soaps in various cute shapes, ranging from pretty to pretty wacky she also does bar shampoo. Since none of her wares I saw were over $10 (and most less) I figured WTH- give it a try. So I initially bought two bar shampoos and a poop emoji. Rose scented. Because poop soap.

So having used he shampoo bar for a couple of weeks, what do I think? I like it. Hers are spiked with Argan oil, which Kiehl’s briefly flirted with and which I liked in their products. The soap does create a nice creamy lather that doesn’t dry out my scalp or hair and rinses clean. I have a soap holder right near my shower head to it’s a no-brainer to just keep it there in easy reach. Certainly if I went to the gym (which I should) and showered there (which I wouldn’t- I’m weird about that. I go home) it would be more convenient and were I travelling (which I am not) I assume that it, not being a liquid or a gel would not be subject to the TSA’s whims.

So, would I buy again? Yes. Frankly at this price point ($6 per bar, $7.50 with the aluminum travel container plus shipping- so order in bulk) and being this easy to use It would be a no-brainer just to have in the house. My hair isn’t colored or chemically processed and I have no problems with thinning so I can’t speak to how it will work for those who have those issues. But on days where I just want to jump in the shower, scrub myself down, hose myself off, and get on with my day this is a great stuff.

Have you tried bar shampoo? A devotee of the hand-made soap world (which I am afraid in my next frontier/obsession/moneysuck)? Let us know in the comments.

I purchased my items from the seller’s Etsy Shop
