Hey there Posse Peeps! Today I’d like to talk about the study fragrances that helped me through my course. You may know I’ve spent the last two years studying to become a Marriage Celebrant. In Australia it’s a big deal, and a hard slog. Run by companies under supervision by the Attorney General’s Department, so answering to the highest arena in Australia. It’s expensive and time consuming. The end is so close I can taste it. Studying is harder than I remember and keeping focused in an online, self starter situation has had definite drawbacks. Add to that home, husband and pets, friends, work and the daily minutiae of keeping all that running and things started to slip. When I was applying for the course the owner told me that only about 25% that start complete the training and become Marriage Celebrants. I can see why.

In December 2025 I finally completed the course and passed with 100%. I’ve filled out the requisite forms, got my references in order and made sure every i is dotted and t crossed. It was all sent off before Christmas and now the wait till the AG Office rubber stamps my application or not. It can take between three and nine months currently. Everything crossed.

I’d like to take a moment here to acknowledge that without the support and prodding of my husband Jin and Penny, one of my dear girlfriends (already a Celebrant), regular help sessions this would never have happened. They both gave me hope when there seemed to be none. They pushed, and led, and cajoled and fed me through some really dark moments.

Study Fragrances

This is such an interesting genre. Study Fragrances can not be overpowering. They can’t have a large range of story. It’s all about flying under the radar till you need a huff of something to still the mind. Something that can bring you back from the abyss without then taking you on a wander down the garden path. Super niche window. TBH finding a few that work really well was gratifying. I was worried for a while it might have to be a scent nude experience. I’ve written about nearly all of these before but here are my top four Study Fragrances.

Contradiction woman by Calvin Klein

Contradiction is such an old favourite of mine. First brought to my attention long after the perfume counters in Oz had stopped stocking it. My friend was bemoaning its loss and so I bought her a bottle from OS. Cue rapture. At the time I bought myself a bottle and it has remained a faithful stable ever since. An outer space crystalised rose flower, frozen in time. It’s gorgeous, but also very linear, making it a perfect wear-and-forget till you need a fragrant pick me up. It has excellent longevity too so even if I’m studying 6+ hours there are still remnants that huff up my shirt. Of all my Study Fragrances Contradiction W has had the most wear.

Ombre Indigo by Olfactive Studio

Ombre Indigo works year round. Its lightly sweet fruitiness overlaid on a leathery amber also has a salty ambergris, seaside vibe. It is a very niche scent, I couldn’t imagine somethingThough Ombre Indigo is a complex wear, after the first hour the heft deflates. This leaves a wash of lovely leather/amber/ambergris with the slightly oily greenness of vetiver wafting comfortably but not conspicuously. A true breath of fresh air that can keep me powering on without interrupting.

Vanilla Diorama by DIOR

A gift from one of my dearest friends my 40ml Vanilla Diorama hasn’t had very much wear yet because I had to finish a Surrender To Chance decant. Boozy, patchouli rich vanilla that skirts bakery but is more like the crackly caramel in peanut brittle, also touched with a dream of nougat cream. I know this sounds too intricate and intense to be one of my Study Fragrances. Even though it does have a glorious ride, still it manages to be calming and not interruptive. Sometimes I just want to be surrounded by not too sweet gorgeousness. Vanilla Diorama fits the bill perfectly.

Ysatis by Givenchy

Yes, I know. Ysatis is a historic, beast mode, big white floral. It screams out of the spritzer and bludgeons me with its ridiculous gorgeousness. Thing is, when you’ve worn a fragrance on and off for decades, it doesn’t seem to require the same effort as if you come new to it. So Ysatis is a calming wave that lets me focus on the job at hand while remaining its flamboyant superstar self. When I’m stuck in study a few huffs and my mind is ready to go back and find the answer, the link or the right words. Ysatis will probably NEVER work for you as one of your Study Fragrances but for me it has been heaven scent.
