Waiting For The Right Time

–
Some perfumes arrive on the market not at the right time. I have a good example — Wrappings from Clinique. I love this perfume. But it arrived too early. It wasn’t the right moment, and really it didn’t have the success it deserved. I thought my sample number 99 was very good, but perhaps [the time when I originally made] it wasn’t the right moment for it. But when Hermes said it was time to think about a more intense version of Barenia, I thought, okay, perhaps it’s a good idea to go back to 99. So really, I returned to the heart of my creation.
At the recent London launch of Hermes Barenia intense, Christine Nagel described the creation process of the scent, why she wanted to make a chypre in the first place, and how she thinks ‘intensity’ should be achieved in perfumery.
