Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran, in which one tourist was killed and six others were injured, calling it “an abomination”. He also announced that he will be immediately returning to Srinagar.

In a post on X, Abdullah said, “The perpetrators of this attack are animals, inhuman and worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough. I send my sympathies to the families of the deceased. I’ve spoken to my colleague @sakinaitoo & she has moved to the hospital to oversee arrangements for the injured.”

The Chief Minister said that the details of the death toll are still being ascertained, and called the attack “much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years”.

Lieutenant Governor of J-K Manoj Sinha also condemned the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam and assured stern action against perpetrators.

Lt. Guv Sinha assured the people that “those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished.” He has spoken to the DGP & Security officials. Army and J&K Police teams have rushed to the area and launched search operations.

“Directed the district administration and the health officials to provide immediate medical attention to those admitted at Pahalgam. An injured tourist has been evacuated to GMC Anantnag. I pray for the speedy recovery of all the injured,” he said in a post on X.

Security forces have been rushed to the spot and are trying to reach the location where the attack took place, but are facing difficulties due to the difficult terrain.

Meanwhile, a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot has reportedly claimed responsibility for the incident.

Terrorists targeted a group of people, including women and elderly individuals, in a brazen attack. A middle-aged male tourist recounted to News18 JKLH that two gunmen opened fire on them.

Top police sources earlier said that the attack started around noon, 1430hrs. Eyewitnesses told security forces that two to three men rushed in dressed in military fatigues, firing indiscriminately at tourists while they were enjoying the Baisaran Meadows of Pahalgam on horseback.

According to CNN-News18 sources, security forces are exercising caution while approaching the attack site due to concerns of a potential trap, as the location is accessible only via a non-motorable road. The area has been cordoned off.
