Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel won the toss and opted to bowl first against Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians (MI) in their 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.
Axar revealed his decision behind choosing to fielding first as Delhi have been chasing well and also because the wicket is a new one. He also admitted that there will be a lot of challenges, given that it is a small ground with a lot of sixes being hit. He adds that bowlers need to be brave to keep pitching the ball in the right area and keep searching for wickets.
The DC skipper said Faf du Plessis is injured.
“We’ll bowl first. We’re chasing well, and it’s the first match over here this season so don’t know how the pitch will play. Don’t trust numbers from the past too much. Challenge is to follow the plan properly and to be brave even if you get hit for a six,” Axar said after winning the toss.
“Faf is injured,” he added.
MI captain Hardik said he is happy to have lost the toss, adding that he won the toss the previous four times but the result was not in their favour. When asked about what conversations the teams is having after so many losses, he said the talk is mostly about the mistakes made and how they can get better. He also stressed that there is a lot of experience within the team to understand the situation, adding that MI are trying not to hit the panic button.
“Conversations are about where we are making mistakes. There’s no lack of experience in this group. We’re not far from having a good game. We’re trying not to hit the panic button. Panicking doesn’t help. We don’t have much margin of error, hope everything comes good tonight. Same team,” Hardik said.
