Kim Soo-hyun’s Legal Team Hunts For ‘Fake Aunt’ In Defamation Suit: ‘We’re Confident…’

Kim Soo-hyun is facing serious allegations that he dated the late actress Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor. The actor has firmly denied these claims. Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, also filed a 12 billion KRW defamation lawsuit against Sae-ron’s family and the YouTube channel GaroSero which had made the allegations that Kim Soo-hyun had dated Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor.
The controversy started when a woman claiming to be Kim Sae-ron’s aunt came forward with accusations that Kim Soo-hyun had an inappropriate relationship with the actress after her tragic death. Along with GaroSero and Sae-ron’s family, she presented what she claimed was evidence to support her accusations, including photos, KakaoTalk screenshots and letters.
Now, Kim Soo-hyun’s legal team, LKB & Partners, has been working to identify this aunt. In a statement released via Daum, the legal team revealed that one of the defendants in the case is an unidentified woman whom they referred to as the “so-called fake aunt.” According to the legal team, the court paperwork requires identifying details such as the woman’s name, phone number or ID number.
“If we can verify even one of the following — name, phone number, or resident registration number — then we’ll have no problem. With a phone number, we can go through telecom providers; with a resident number, we can pull basic registration documents,” the statement read.
“In the case of the so-called fake aunt, none of those three identifiers have been confirmed yet. However, we’re confident her identity will eventually be confirmed, because a criminal complaint has also been filed against her. Investigative authorities, upon receiving the complaint, will have to identify her. We’re trying to speed that up ourselves as well,” the legal team added.
The statement concluded with the legal team mentioning that through police investigation, they may be able to secure the aunt’s contact information via phone records with other co-defendants. “It’s still difficult to predict when the first court hearing will take place, but it’s likely the civil trial will proceed in parallel with the ongoing criminal investigation,” the statement mentioned.
YouTuber Lee Jin Ho, who revealed details about Kim Sae-ron’s past relationships, including claims that Kim Soo-hyun had no involvement in her tragic death, had earlier threatened legal action over the so-called “fake aunt.”
In response, the bereaved family defended the woman, insisting she was indeed part of their family. They stated, “Mr. Lee Jin Ho, there is no such person in this family. The aunt is simply Sae Ron’s aunt, that is all. No harm done, ever. In fact, if there were someone falsely claiming to be Sae Ron’s relative, we would be the ones taking legal action, not you. I don’t understand why you are doing this. Why do I even waste time explaining this? Do you think that by constantly diverting the issue, the public will forget what you have done?”
Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, had also addressed the allegations regarding the actor’s relationship with Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor. The agency clarified that the two were in a relationship in 2019 and 2020. It further argued that the viral photo, which caused the controversy, was also taken in 2020 and not in 2016.
